The MRBA started in 1985, with games initially played at the Tony Clarke Reserve, Mt. Macedon. We now play most games at Buffalo stadium in Woodend, but also send a number of junior squads to play in Sunbury leagues as the Woodend Hawks. We are an all-inclusive association that serves the entire community, running fun-oriented Aussie Hoops skills development sessions for under-10s boys and girls, intermediate age groups, all-abilities training and modified games, mixed competitions, and open women's and men's competitions.
The MRBA strives to provide opportunities for personal growth and development of youth athletes while also reinforcing positive influences, self-confidence, self-esteem and the ability to excel on and off the court. The Association is dedicated to educate and motivate each member while encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship and fun as well as provide opportunities for our young members to take on official responsibilities of umpiring, coaching and scoring.
Basketball is a great activity for all ages and abilities. As an exercise, basketball is a great cross-training activity based on the short bursts of running, jumping, extension, quick changes of direction, balance, coordination and resistance involved in shooting, passing, rebounding, and working for court position. As a team sport with just five players on the court per side, basketball instils the importance of team-oriented individual roles and responsibilities that apply to every aspect of life. Finally, and ultimately, from the playgrounds of the Bronx to the MRBA, basketball is a fantastic social activity available to everybody!
Please contact our committee or individual age group coordinators with any questions, and if you'd like to get involved.
The MRBA Constitution and By Laws were updated and passed at a special general meeting on 21 March 2019 in line with the Associations Incorporation Reform Act of 2012, Basketball Victoria Country By-Laws, and Basketball Australia By-Laws.
