Basketball Victoria/MRBA Player Pathways
Basketball has a number of avenues that players can take to improve their game, which can be confusing. With Macedon Ranges being on the border of Country and Metro, it can be confusing to understand how the different pathways link together (or not). This document aims to make this clearer and show which steps are prerequisites to others in the Basketball Victoria system. There is no ''right'' pathway, and you can re-join pathways at different times.
Page two also includes a ''Myth Busters'' section to help correct a number of misunderstandings that have been circulating in the MRBA community. Please contact us with any questions you may still have at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Community Level: Designed for small groups of people aspiring to start coaching at an Aussie Hoops or domestic primary school level, but who have limited understanding of basketball. This is a two-hour course that covers basic teaching points of skills and fundamentals, shows drills that can be used at a training session for junior athletes, and provides guidance on how the drills can be adapted for different age groups and skill levels.
Club Level: Designed for individuals who have been playing or coaching for at least 12 months, who want to obtain further information about planning training seasons and developing player skills, and is suitable for people aspiring to coach at a school, domestic club level and the lower levels of representative basketball. The course includes an online theory component, assessment program, manuals and other coaching assistance resources. Participants undergo a six-hour theory session that includes particpation in drills, facilitated by an on-court presenter, and concludes with an assessment of coaching competency.
Association Level: Those that have held their Club level accreditation for 12 months and are looking to further their coaching education to incorporate higher level representative level teams, state teams and senior teams. The course runs for 19 hours, 3 of which is a strength and conditioning session at Core Advantage in Oakleigh. The other 16 hours are a mix of theory and practical work, where coaches are on court and working in small groups. There is an assessment task included where coaches need to design their trials period and 10 weeks of session plans, or they’re able to complete a video assessment of them taking a training session and covering off certain competencies.
